This holiday season I’m getting festive with these bourbon apple cider cocktails. They come together in a snap with no special bar cart ingredients required, but manage to feel special and taste delicious!
I love a good cocktail, but I don’t love that many of them require a million steps these days. These bourbon apple cider cocktails have a mere four ingredients, none of them exotic, but they manage to feel special. The apple cider and kiss of ginger make them lovely this time of year. The slightly spicy bite of ginger is the perfect balance to the smoky sweet bourbon, and a dash of lemon juice balances everything on out.
While this is only my second cocktail recipe for this site (I’m more of a wine girl!), I’m sensing a theme. Both this recipe and my Ruby Red Greyhounds are darn simple but full of delicious, refreshing flavor that speaks perfectly to their seasonal moment. Perhaps I should start a simple seasonal cocktail series?
To make the ginger flavor work flawlessly here, I like to “juice” the ginger. To do this, I grate it on a microplane then take it into my hand, gently squeezing it over a cup or a bowl so that the juices flow out. Once I’ve squeezed out all the liquid, I ditch the pulp. I often do this when cooking with ginger as well. I find that the flavor is a bit more subtle and works better in places where ginger is a contributing member but not the only star.
So put some logs on the fire, mix up a batch of these bourbon apple cider cocktails, and kick up your feet to enjoy the best of the season!

A festive, simple, and elegant cocktail that’s perfect this holiday season!
- 6 oz good quality bourbon
- 12 oz cold pressed apple cider
- 3–4 teaspoons ginger juice (add more to taste)
- 3 teaspoons lemon juice
- Ice (I love to make use big cubes that I make in these molds)
- Apple slices for garnish (optional)
- Combine all the ingredients in a pitcher, stirring well to chill the cocktail
- If you want to serve the cocktails neat, strain from ice, pouring into four glasses
- If you prefer them iced, you can use the ice from the pitcher, or strain and add fresh ice to each glass
